Top Hero Builds for the Task Bar: A Complete Guide

Building an effective Task Bar Hero setup involves choosing the right heroes and their best skills to make progress easier. If you’re hitting walls, it might be time to level up your heroes more, unlock better skills, or consider respeccing and trying a different strategy. According to my tier list, the Priest stands out as the top character in the game, so she should always be part of your team. Besides her, you’ll need to fill the other two hero spots, and there are several good combinations. Here are three Task Bar Hero builds that helped me get through normal mode and into nightmare difficulty.

Best Task Bar Hero Build (Levels 1-19)

Slot 1: Priest
- Skills: Wrath of Heaven or Heal, plus Blessing of Might
- Gear and stats: Use a strong scepter and tome. Focus on items that increase Maximum HP, Armor, HP Regen, and Damage Absorption. If you pick Wrath of Heaven, boosting lightning damage and HP Regen is helpful.
Slot 2: Ranger or Hunter

- Ranger Skills: Arrow Rain and Rapid Fire
- Gear and stats (Ranger): A good bow and arrows, and equipment that boosts attack speed, critical chance, and critical damage.
- Hunter Skills: Explosive Bolt and Frost Bolt
- Gear and stats (Hunter): Crossbow and bolts that increase attack speed, critical chance, critical damage, and elements like fire or cold damage.
Slot 3: Sorcerer
- Skills: Fireball and Ice Orb
- Gear and stats: Use a reliable staff and orb, with gear that lowers cooldown, boosts area damage, critical chance, and critical damage. Enhancing fire and ice damage is also beneficial.

This setup works well through Act 1 and most of Act 2, with the Priest acting as a frontline defender and key support. Since she ranks highly on the hero tier list, including her makes sense. If you choose Wrath of Heaven, she can deal a lot of melee damage, but if you go with Heal, she becomes very durable due to self-healing.

While her enemies are focused on the Priest, the Ranger and Sorcerer can unleash their ranged attacks and elemental spells from a distance, helping thin enemy crowds. The Priest’s Blessing of Might amplifies this damage further. If you use the Hunter instead of the Ranger, she can also provide a mix of ranged and spell attacks, with her Frost Bolt offering crowd control.

Progressing from Levels 20-39

Getting your heroes to level 20 takes time but unlocks powerful new skills. By this point, you should also have one or two Task Bar Hero pets. The core team remains the same, but increased difficulty means healing is crucial. The Priest’s Sanctuary skill becomes less effective when heroes move faster, so I switch her back to Heal, letting her act as an almost invincible shield.

At this stage, the Sorcerer can swap Fireball for Meteor Strike, a high-damage spell that clears enemies immediately upon impact, despite its long cooldown. For the Ranger, it’s good to switch her skill from Rapid Fire or Arrow Rain to Piercing Arrow. This allows her to damage multiple enemies simultaneously while her other skills are on cooldown.

Levels 40 and Beyond

Once your heroes hit level 40, they unlock their ultimate skills, and tougher nightmare battles become common. This is when you’ll want to refine your builds for maximum effectiveness. I found that I no longer need Sanctuary — it’s more beneficial to stick with Heal, which keeps your heroes alive longer.

For the Sorcerer, Meteor Strike can obliterate almost everything on screen, making it a must-have for boss fights and waves of enemies. The Ranger can switch her skills to Piercing Arrow, enabling her to weaken multiple enemies at once. Focus on upgrading critical chance and damage for all heroes to maximize their damage potential.

As you develop your team, remember that investing your Gold in the right Task Bar Hero Runes early on makes a big difference. Getting the best runes unlocks more chests, gear, and soulstones necessary for challenging Act Bosses.
